Wagnild to Lead the Hawaii State Bar Association - (November 1, 2010) - Partner Craig Wagnild, who heads our firm's business and real estate transaction department, was elected last month to serve as President of the Hawaii State Bar Association in 2013. Wagnild will serve as HSBA Vice President and then President-Elect, before taking the office of President. The HSBA is the state bar association to which all 4,800 attorneys in Hawaii are members. Former Insurance Commissioner Joins Bays Deaver - (July 1, 2010) - Former State of Hawaii Insurance Commissioner J.P Schmidt has joined our Firm and will lead our Insurance Section. As counsel to the firm, Schmidt's practice will focus on commercial, health, and captive insurance matters, and government regulatory law. Read Schmidt's resume of qualifications Firm Wins Major Constitutional Case - (June 1, 2010) - Partners Bruce Voss and Ryan Engle represented one of Hawaii's largest commercial landowners and won a judgment declaring a state statute unconstitutional. Read the ruling by U.S. District Judge Susan Oki Mollway, finding that a law passed by the 2009 Hawaii State Legislature violated the Contracts Clause and Equal Protection Clause of the U.S. Constitution.
