Welcome to the new Whispering Winds Bamboo Co-operative site. We have been farming biodynamically since 2003 and are certified organic by Stellar Certification Services. We cultivate a full range of bamboo plants for landscaping and have bamboo timber poles as well as several tropical hardwood species for sale.
Lots has changed since the launching of our first web site in 2003 and we are excited to be able to share all the news. First as a result of the Ola Honua mission, we the employees have bought the bamboo business from the owners and are now a bonafide employee owned cooperative. The transition from employees to worker/owners is a challenging one as we wrestle with the added administrative duties of managing a small agricultural business on Maui. We are completed up for the tasks and keen to take the torch.

The real news is the blossoming of the bamboo plantation and the bamboo timber poles being harvested. After six relatively short years we are now selling timber in the 1 to 4 inch diameter sizes of various high quality species including the gorgeous black bamboos that maintain their black color even after curing.
Our bamboo plant nursery is still full of the world's prettiest and useful hedgeing bamboos and landscape plants. We have a full range of pot sizes and species to satisfy even the most intrepid gardener. Call for prices and current sales.
Also new to the project is our ever evolving apprenticeship program which offers an opportunity to come and work and learn and play with us as we maintain the project. Check out the blog for all the current activities and photos of our crew at work and play.
Our native restoration and exotic tropical timber plantings are also growing and maturing at astounding rates and we are even beginning to thin stands resulting in a small inventory of hardwood poles for sale.
If you would like a tour of all this please call for details and to make an appointment. Tours are given on the second Friday of every month. Please call for reservations and directions. A fee of $20 is charged per person.
Our staff is always ready to answer a question or advise on selecting a plant. They will also take your order for a quantity of bamboo poles or help find that single pole for your special project.
