An affordable accommodation on Maui's North Shore
Kuau Inn, a four guest room bed and breakfast on Maui, is a classic plantation-style house in the beach village of Kuau. Our location is 5 miles from Kahului Airport, one mile from Paia Town, 45 miles to Hana. Kuau Inn, hosting guests from around the world for nearly 10 years, is one of only a few permitted rental on the north shore of Maui.
Mauis north shore has many features that are special to this area. Our beaches are free of oceanfront development. Within minutes of Kuau Inn are world renowned Hookipa Beach, very popular for surfing, windsurfing, kite surfing and stand up paddling and Peahi, also known as Jaws, world famous for tow-in surfing. For safe swimming Kuau Cove, where Mamas Fish House is located, and Baldwin Beach near Paia have protected lagoons year round.
Paia Town, one mile away, is a colorful beach town full of locals and people from around the world. The 10 or so restaurants are all very good, unique and also affordable. Paia Town is known for its fun shopping. The various shops, boutiques and galleries are small owner-operated, unique and unusual, stylish businesses that arent found in resorts.
Our sea level climate is usually about 80 and sunny, kept cool by the trade winds, a perfect climate for the beach and ocean sports. Kuau is a casual, friendly village. Mama's Fish House, Maui's famous and outstanding island cuisine restaurant has been thriving in Kuau for decades. It is a stroll away. We also have Kuau Mart, where you can get cold drinks, hot food and snacks from the very friendly family owners just across the street.
Our address is 676 Hana Highway where this historic road to Hana begins its way to the far east side of Maui. A couple hour drive through spectacular scenery of waterfalls, tropical jungle and ocean vistas and youll arrive in Hana, Hawaiis very Hawaiian region. Its a full and amazing day trip not to be missed when you visit Maui.
Kuau Inn is at the foot of the magnificent Haleakala Crater. Only 15 minutes up the road is the paniolo (cowboy) town of Makawao. Makawao is also an historic town, similar to Paia. Other intriguing destinations nearby are the Ulupalakua Winery, Alii Lavendar Farm, Surfing Goat Dairy and various botanical gardens. For nature lovers, also in this region are hiking to pools and waterfalls or through rain forests, mountain bike trails and Haleakala National Park. For culture and shopping Maui Arts & Cultural Center, the Hui Noeau Visual Arts Center and several shopping malls with theater complexes are very close. We are also close to Mauis only hospital.
