Nationwide the FBI performed 31 percent more firearms background checks from the month of the presidential election until the month of the inauguration more than 4.2 million checks from November through January, compared with 3.2 million from November 2007 through January 2008.
Concerns that the new president will outlaw so-called assault weapons, along with fear that the economic crisis will result in civil unrest and a rise in violent crime, might be spurring the upswing in gun ownership."

U.S. COAST GUARD AWARDS SIGARMS $4.2 MILLION CONTRACT FOR P229-DAK PISTOLS
SIGARMS has won another major contract following on the heels of the $23.7 million contract from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement awarded in August. This new contract from the U.S. Coast Guard is valued at $4.2 million. Under the contract the USCG will be replacing their Beretta pistols with the P229R-DAK in 40 S&W. Magnum offers NRA Certified handgun safety course!
Hawaii Revised Statutes mandate all handgun purchasers to complete NRA's Basic Pistol Course as a prerequisite to apply for a "permit to acquire" a handgun. Magnum provides this course every other Saturday from 9 AM - 4 PM. All participants receive hands-on training with a variety of pistols. A portion of the class is committed to discussing judicious use of lethal force.
