One of the reasons a lot of older people avoid treatment for their varicose veins is because they're afraid of the possible risks associated with the treatments themselves. This is sad, for a number of reasons. First, without proper treatment their disease is only going to get worse, causing them unnecessary pain and suffering. Second, their fears are baseless, because modern vein disease treatments are among the safest in all of medicine, for patients of any age.

Treatments that aren't safe for older people wouldn't make any sense

The vast majority of vein disease is, after all, seen in people over the age of 60. So naturally, most of the tremendous advances in modern vein disease treatment technologies created in recent years have been developed with an older group of patients in mind. If we were treating a disease in our Monmouth County vein clinic that strikes primarily children, we'd make sure that our treatments were safe for children, right? Well, as specialists in varicose vein treatment on the Jersey Shore, we mainly treat people who are 60 or older, so of course we use treatments that are safe for that age group.

Treatment starts with non-invasive diagnosis and conservative methods

In our practice, we often encounter older adults who are afraid of even seeking diagnostic treatment. Because they've been poked and prodded and stuck with needles or other invasive medical objects so often during their lives, they're afraid that even an examination may be painful. Nothing could be further from the truth, because the diagnostic procedures we use are non-invasive, performed with instruments such as ultrasound that allow us to look beneath the surface of the skin without breaking it. And if our examinations determine that you have vein disease, we tend to start treating the conditions conservatively, using diet and exercise and compression stockings to reduce symptoms.

To remove varicose veins, we use minimally-invasive, risk-free methods

If your vein disease is more advanced, or if you have already decided that you want to eliminate your varicose veins completely, we use minimally-invasive procedures such as sclerotherapy that are so gentle they can be performed in the comfort of our offices, and are so gentle that often they don't even require a local anesthetic. This removes the risks associated with general anesthesia, and the pain, scarring, and long recovery times associated with having to make deep incisions. Our procedures are so gentle that patients have had their varicose veins removed on their lunch hours, and then walked out and returned to work.

So whether you are 20 or 80, your vein treatment at New Jersey Vein and Laser Center is going to be painless and safe

Dr. Owano Pennycooke knows that his first responsibility is to his patients and to their overall feeling of safety and well-being. All of the procedures he uses have been proven to be safe and effective in clinics around the world. So if you have been putting off having your varicose veins treated because you've been worried about the risks, you really don't have to worry. If you have additional questions about our procedures and what they involve, just give our Monmouth County vein expert a call at 732-403-3899 and we'll answer all of your questions.
